Life Capsule for Today Date: 16th November, 2023
Theme: Power from on High (5)
Memory Verse: Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” NIV
Topic: A Dependable Promise
Today’s Reading: Luke 11:11-13
11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” NIV
Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday, still on the theme, power from on high, we looked at the prove of the Holy Spirit baptism, we did learn that the prove of baptism is power, although people on being baptized exercise spiritual gifts as an outward sign, the central thing received is power and that power is for service. So an individual baptized from on high with the Holy Spirit could speak in tongues, prophesy, some soon realize they have more frequent occurrences of visions and divine revelations or any of the spiritual gifts. While I like to emphasize the outward sign of the Holy spirit Power is the outward manifestation of Spiritual gifts for service as the Lord pleases, I like to de-emphasize that it must be the gift of tongues.
Today I want to talk about the promise and how dependable it is. From today’s reading, we see the Lord drawing a comparison between our earthly father and their ability to keep their promises to him and his ability to exceed whatever good our earthly parents can afford. He said just as a father would not give snakes instead of fishes so would he give the Holy Spirit to those that ask him, Here is he pointing to the fact that when you ask for the Holy Spirit, you would receive nothing but the Holy Spirit, in addition, the good gift God has to give to us is the Holy Spirit (Mat 7.11).
The promise of Christ is dependable, and he would keep to his word. In Matt 28.30, he promised to be with us always. And the Promise of the Holy Spirit baptism is for all generation as many as the Lord would call Act 2.39. Because he has sent us as his father has sent him, he must equip us the same way he was equipped for the work (Jhn 20.21), we can therefore be sure that we are empowered for the work ahead, in fact we may say we are more empowered because the days are evil, and he has promised we would do greater works (Jhn 14.12). When he was in the world, he was the Light of the world (Jhn 9.5) undoing the works of darkness now that we are in the World, we are to do greater works than he did. May the Lord Grant us light.
