Words of the Ministry:

Amen, we began a study on the theme “Power from on high” yesterday, and we considered the Lord Jesus and his earthly walk, we noticed his unusual human abilities and authority. Such authority was noticed in nature when he spoke to the wind and sea, fishes and tree, demons and unclean spirits also recognized his person as they declared who he was and left their captives at his command, the Pharisee and the seduces though his public enemy, they still could testify to his supernatural life as Nicodemus testifies in Jhn 3. Pilate had nothing to accuse him of, he was full of uncommon wisdom and glory.

Jesus was indeed a superman. The disciple got worried when their master was about to leave them, they wondered how they would continue in his steps without him, they immediately recalled some events of failure, but Jesus comforted them that another person is coming, the promise of the father, the person through whom he did the miraculous was coming from the father. Today we intend to look at the promise of the father, the person of the Holy Spirit.

The promise was made in Jhn 16.1-14 (please read), we see the Lord comforting his disciples and informing them of what they would suffer, in verse 7, the Lord told them it was necessary that he left else the Holy Spirit who is the comforter would not come, there were many things to tell them but they could not bear it without having the promised comforter (12), the Holy spirit, the promised comforter was to teach them all truth. On hearing this, the disciples had to wait in the upper room in Acts 2 to have the promised encounter.

The Holy Spirit commonly called the paraclit or paraclitus is somehow difficult to interpret to English, but theologians use words like helper, comforter, advocate, intercessor, standby to describe him.  The word another could signify another of the same type or of another type. The holy spirit was the missing link, the difference between the earthly man Jesus and the disciples. He was to come and accomplish the work of the father in us so we can be as Jesus was, in John 16:14 Jesus said “14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you” just as the father glorified Jesus and showed him his glory in Jhn 17.24. Here we see a contrast between Moses to whom God could not reveal his glory (Exo 33.18-23  ) and Jesus who God revealed his glory to, not only that, Jesus through the Spirit is also revealing his glory to the saints. What a privilege to be partakers of his glory through the power of the Holy spirit coming from high 1 Pet 4.13.
