Today’s Reading: 1 Peter 4:7-10
7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. 9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging. 10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. KJV
Words of the Ministry:
Today we would be concluding our weeklong lesson on the theme understanding grace, I would like to remind us that grace was given to us as a result of God’s love and as we have received such grace, we are expected to give same to others. We did learn in our previous lessons that grace flows top down, what we call love is received as grace by the lower party, so likewise as the bible encourages us to love our neighbors, we are meant to do it knowing we are extending the grace of God to them even if we think they don’t deserve it.
Jesus was sent to the cross and died to save us from our sin when he did not deserve this suffering. However, he did this through the gift of sacrificial love. We need to know this when we do not want to be gracious to others, because God tells us to do everything in love. All the gifts we have been given whether it be love, joy, peace or patience, we need to share with the people around us so that they may see God’s light shine through. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matt. 5:16).
As we go out for gospel preaching and other works of evangelism, we must present the gospel gracefully, we must ensure that the audience or listener experiences the grace of God through our ministration, this must be pursued deliberately and prayerfully as it also helps us to maximize the grace of God upon us. It teaches us humility and long-suffering. When we are prideful, we tend to deny forgiveness to others which only makes it more difficult for us to have grace. By being graceful and recognizing God’s gift of grace to us we are not letting pride get in our way. We need to be gracious toward ourselves and others just as God has done toward us.
Such grace must also be expressed in our helping the saints and the unsaved. Our material possession was gotten not by power but by the grace of God. As we show love to family, friends and neighbors, we are making them experience the grace of God. The bible records that men beheld the glory of Jesus, and it was full of grace and truth. As men having Christ as the seed of glory within us, we are to express it to our world not just as biblical truth but as a living grace. Such grace forgives, helps the needy, heals the sick, preaches the gospel to the poor and oppressed. May the Lord grant us light.
