6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. KJV
Words of the Ministry:
The bible has a lot to say concerning conflict management among couples as they are the foundation of the home and at the same time the foundation of the society, today I would attempt to look into God’s provision for managing conflict among couples. I like to state clearly that while many don’t like the idea that conflict even exist, I believe conflicts are good when properly managed and seen in the right light as it helps improve on our personality and relationship. It is actually impossible for any couple to live from the day they got married into several years without a day of disagreement. I like to highlight a few reasons for such conflict among married partners and then mention a few guidelines to manage them.
Conflicts don’t just exist in isolation; it is most times a buildup of several decision and happenings in the home. You must consider conflict as an opportunity to bring into isolation the pressing issues that are affecting the harmony of your marriage. Manage these disagreements as a team and work towards evolving as married partners. Do not hope for a marriage conflict resolution to happen on its own. Deal with it. Stalling is not advisable and autocorrect is not an option available. Some of the many reasons for conflicts in the home includes but not limited to the following:
- Unmet expectations and family goals
- Breakdown of effective communication
- Imbalanced power play and ego
- Lack of sexual compatibility
- Inadequate finance or poor financial management
- Children management
- Allocation of time and resources
- Deep rooted psychological issues and wrong ideas from the past
- Religious activities and differences
- Comparing partners and home
The above are some of the very common causes of conflict in the home and as we said earlier, these problems don’t just evaporate, both parties must be deliberate to tackle it else it would not only affect them but also their children, their neighbors, colleagues in the workplace, the church and the society at large. Conflicts when properly managed is actually a blessing and we must all learn how to properly manage them. From our todays reading, we see a mutual honor and balancing as Peter the Apostle encouraged the women to learn from Sarah who honored her husband to the point of calling him lord and he did balance it that the men should also honor their wives giving room for mistakes as they are weaker vessels as not doing so may lead to unanswered prayers. Join us tomorrow as we look into God’s provision for managing the aforementioned conflicts in the home, may God grant us light.
