Words of the ministry
Yesterday we began a study on the theme God of the secret place, we learnt that the almighty omnipresent God has a secret place and some individuals dwell there, we said God loves to hide himself and that there are benefits of being in the secret place, our text particularly says those that dwell in the secret place would abide under the shadow of the almighty, by shadow we mean the influence of his reach, the effect of his presence and the experiences of being with God. Today I like to progress in our study by looking at a few Old Testament examples of individual that knew God’s secret place, dwelt there and some of the benefits the secret place afforded them.
Adam and Eve, the head of the created race were men that dwelt in God’s secret place, Genesis 3 gives us an account of God visiting them in the garden in the cool of the day. The garden was God’s location on earth in their days and we see the effect of the shadow of the almighty as it translated into dominion and authority over every living creature, supernatural protection, divine provision, longevity and an unusual brain and mind power.
Abraham the head of the called race too had several encounters with God in the secret place, the bible mentions he meeting with God at the altar Gen 12.8, atimes the Lord visited him in the house and even on the field. We see in Abraham a man that eventually enjoyed greatness, had a mighty army, walked in God’s covenant blessing, his children becoming great, he was highly prosperous and became the envy of his generation. He built an altar at bethel, many years later his grandson Jacob slept there not knowing God was there, he never knew he was in the house of God and God had an encounter with him Gen 28.19. Abraham through his continuous relationship with God in the secret place could negotiate the possible deliverance of Sodom and he could save his cousin lot.
Moses was another man who dwelt in the secret place, the almighty God made him a god to pharaoh, he was used of God to pass judgement on Egypt Exo 3, he became a deliverer of Israel, (Ex 12). On mount Sinai he dwelt with God in the secret place and on his return no man could behold his face, the implication of that is no man could stand before him, he became so used to the secret place that he said he won’t continue on his journey with an angel except the Lord went ahead of them Ex. 33.11-15. We see Moses negotiating the forgiveness of the children of Israel with God. For the sake of Moses, God punished his elder brother and Mariam his elder sister, God fought battles he never knew about.
Elijah was a man that knew God’s secret place, he dwelt there through prayers, 1 Kings 17.1, during famine when others said there was a casting down he enjoyed supernatural supply and provision. He had the ability to open the heaven, he could even called down fire from heaven, he was a mighty man. For want of time I won’t be able to comment on others like Joseph that could interpret divine revelations, he brought a blessing to whoever he went, Daniel could interpret complex revelations, stop the mouth of lions, Elisha too is another example, he did mighty miracles, raise the dead, cleanse the leper, knew the secret discussion of nations and was a force to recon with. Saint all these men had the knowledge of God secret’s place in common, they sought God with all their heart, believer must realize we are not calling them to a place they are not rather to maximize the benefits it affords, that is the glory of the latter days, the greater works promised by Jesus, may God grant us light. Christ is our Life.
