Theme: Overcoming Temptation (7)

Text: Matt 6:13

13 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.  NKJV

Topic:  God’s provision for our sins

Today’s Reading: 1 John 2:1-2

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. KJV

Words of the Ministry:

Amen, this week we have considered how to overcome temptation by looking at the various provisions God has made for us to ensure the Devil and his wiles are defeated. We have seen from our study that sinless perfection is possible if only we are careful enough to take advantage of the Holy Spirit, the word, the saints in the churches and we carry our cross daily. We also learnt that while God test his children to reveal their weakness and enhance their growth, the goal of temptation from the devil is to make us sin against God and lose favor in his sight. Today I would be looking at God’s provision when we sin, we learnt the goal of temptation is sin but the good news the devil likes to hide from us is that as much as God doesn’t want us to sin, he had made a provision to cleanse our sins and restore our fellowship.

The bible teaches the God frowns at sin (Hab 1.13) but being an all knowing and loving father, he made a provision for our sin and sins before the foundation of the earth (Rev. 13.8). From today’s reading we see the apostle saying we as God’s children should sin not but if we do sin, Jesus as our advocate with the father is making propitiation for us. The sacrificial blood of Christ shed for all is effective and enough to satisfy God’s judgement and restore our fellowship. What we need to do when the Holy Spirit prompts us is to admit and confess our sins to God, the Lord forgives and cleanses our sins away (1 Jhn 1.7-9). We must realize that to sin as a believer doesn’t make us sons of the devil or unsaved rather it affects our fellowship, while we remain children of God, our fellowship is affected and as soon as we confess and repent our fellowship is restored.

Another matter I want to comment on is that of condemnation which the devil does even after we have confessed and repented. We must realize the devil would stop at nothing to see our fellowship is broken especially when we are ignorant of the character of God and the provisions of the atonement. When the devil attacks our conscience, it is to condemn us and make us feel unworthy to approach God, he gives the impression we are too bad for God to relate with. When we try to pray, he reminds us of our confessed sin to bring guilt and condemnation. To this we must know that the bible teaches when God sees the blood he is satisfied, we must tell the devil that. We must remind him of the Cross and learn to plead the blood of Jesus on our conscience, Heb 9:14 “14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” There is therefore no more condemnation, Christ paid the price and God is satisfied, amen.
