Life Capsule for Today                                             20th April, 2026

Theme: Peacemakers (2)

Topic: Overcome Evil with Good

Memory Verse for the week: Mat 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Today’s Reading: Rom 12:17-21

17  Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

18  If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

19  Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

20  Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

21  Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Words of the Ministry

We saw yesterday that the world is in need of peace, the society has made several laws to ensure peaceful co-existence but as we have noticed, it has not yielded adequate result because true peace comes from within and can only be expressed through Christ in us, so while the world tries to train our mind and body towards peaceful coexistence, they get minimal result because peace is meant to firstly emanate from our Spirit to our soul and then our external environment. As a man without peace in himself can’t give peace.

The apostle Paul was giving instructions from today’s reading on the matter of peace, he said we should firstly avoid paying people back in their own coin, that we shouldn’t recompense evil for evil. That is the opposite of what our natural instinct and society teaches, to a natural man, its okay to pay back whatever hurt he received. It seems so normal that we even teach our children while young to stand up and fight back hoping that would make them resist evil and stand for their rights.

From the writings of the apostles, we can see that the matter of peaceful living starts from within, he said the saints should not avenge themselves. In other words, the saints should deny themselves of the push of the flesh but rather see themselves as crucified with Christ and living for God with all their members being that of God. The verse teaches that we are of Gods’ and God would avenge on our behalf. Not only that, he went on to give us guidance on what to do, he said if they are hungry feed them, if thirsty give them water to drink and by so doing, we are heaping a coal of fire on them meaning God having seen we have done all in obedience would avenge us.

Dear saints, this is not a small matter, we must never let evil overcome us, for evil to overcome us means we yield to the temptation of vengeance, unforgiveness, resentment, evil speaking and so on, we are to overcome evil with good. To do this, we must accept the constraint of the Holy Spirit which is contrary to what our society teaches. From childhood we have been taught the way to be at peace is to prove your strength, fight back and the opposition would be scared but that is contrary to the kingdom, in this kingdom we don’t fight a carnal fight, we don’t pay evil for evil, rather we overcome evil with God by allowing God express his love through us. May the Lord grant us light.
