Words of the Ministry

Yesterday we began to look at six things God hates and we considered pride, we said the devil was the expression of pride. Today we intend to consider the second of the six things God hates, we can again trace to it to the devil who is commonly called the father of lies. We would in the the week see that the list of things God hates is actually the personification of Satan, just as we can relate the spiritual weapons of warfare to Jesus so we can relate these six things to the expression of Satan.

When an individual chooses to lie over telling the truth, its him or her choosing Satan in place of Jesus, lying is a way of compromise, it is not wanting to suffer, it is to reap where we didn’t sow. Jesus is the way, truth and life while Satan is the father of lies.  Many lie to cover up sin, because lying is a temporary solution to most issues we are meant to confront, many chose it and later face the consequences of greater punishment and shame. Lying defiles a man as what comes out of a man’s heart and mouth defiles a person (Mat 15:18-20). Lying requires planning for proper execution, it is as a result of a strong sense of shame, greed or an evil heart. It is one of the indicators that we have not allowed the Holy Spirit have his way in us.

The fate of unrepentant liars is well spelt out in scriptures, our today’s reading says such persons would not dwell in God’s house or stay in his presence. Lying is one of the devilish skills children learn from the society even as they grow, we as parents and guardians must do all we can to discourage it, the destiny of liars is terrible “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” Rev 21.8. God hates lies and if we are of God, we must hate lies too. Lies might be a convenient cover but it only shows the devil is in charge of our lives. We must be willing to carry our cross as the price for the truth may be costly but in the long run in pays off.

Are you guilty of lying? The way of victory is to approach Christ the truth today, own up and ask him to express his nature in you. Peter the Apostle once lied, denying Jesus (Mark 14. 27-31) but when he repented, he was forgiven.  The same love is open to you today if only you would admit your wrong and approach Jesus, he is more than able to forgive.
