Theme:        Reasons for Christmas                (6)

Topic: Jesus’ birth brought many sons to glory

Memory Verse:    Matt 1:21

21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” NKJV

Today’s Reading:        Rev 4:2-4

2 Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. 3 And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. 4 Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. NKJV

Rev 21:9-11

9 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came to me and talked with me, saying, “Come, I will show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife.”   10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 11 having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal.

NKJV

Words of the Ministry

Yesterday we saw the glorious event that happened in history, how Jesus the son became a man eternally while remaining fully God. We made references to his glorified state as a man stating that he remains a man to be our high priest in heaven. Today I would spend some time emphasizing on another reason for celebrating the birth of Christ which is that the coming of Christ as man brought many sons to glory and just as he Christ who is God became a man, his birth and eventual death and resurrection has brought man into God. So we become like God in life and nature but not in the Godhead. As we read through scriptures, we see the matter of image and likeness from genesis the first book to revelation. We learnt in the beginning of this series that man’s problems were two-fold. One was concerning the justice and righteousness of God and the order was concerning God’s economy, his plan for man. Genesis shows us that God’s intention was to enter man and make him his container while he God would be his content and by this, man would be his expression, his image and his likeness.

The coming of Christ as we have learnt brought an answer to the justice and righteous demands of God but in addition the economy of God was restored. The psalmist was prophetically asking a question in Psalm 8.4-5 that why has God made man a little lower than Elohim? Saints God’s goal is that man should be like him in image and likeness, in life and in nature but not in the God head. The birth of Christ gave us an idea into the mind of God, the kind of many sons God had in mind. In Colossians 1.15, Jesus is said to be the image of the invisible God and John 1.18 Jesus revealed what God looks like, his likeness so we can say Jesus was born to show us the reality and the meaning of image and likeness. In John 1.12-13, the bible said we are also born of God, like Jesus we are the many sons of God. This he finally accomplished at his death which he referred to in John 12.24, where he is the grain of seed that must be buried to bring several grains, that is a harvest of God sons. By this we can trace our descent not to man but God, we can say we have been translated from being man-kind to God-kind.

Saints, our today’s reading brings us to the climax of this revelation, what we saw in Genesis became a reality in Revelation. John saw a revelation of God in Revelation 4.2-4, in that revelation he saw the likeness of God like a Jasper and Sardius stone, the same John saw the likeness of the new Jerusalem referred to as the bride of Christ which is an organic city comprising of all the saints and her image was also like Jasper. From John’s vision, we can see that the issue of image and likeness became a reality. John the revelator from his experience has shown us that the issue of image in our spirit Jhn 4.24) and likeness as our expression is indeed a reality. Considering the above, we can again conclude that the celebration of Christmas is indeed worth it as that was the day man experienced the reality of the image and likeness of God which no man ever had and his birth opened the way for man be become like God in life and nature but not in the God-head, amen.
