Words of the Ministry

Amen, today we come to the third of the three temptations of Jesus. We learnt in our previous lessons that the tempter never gives up, he leaves for a while to come again and again, we also learnt we need a combination of prayers and the word to overcome the tempter. Emphasis was also made that regardless of our spiritual height, the devil would still come tempting and our victory is assured when we walk in the Holy Spirit. The matter of temptation is so sure and evil that Jesus in the Lord’s prayer taught that we should pray saying Matt 6:13 “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.”. Temptation can lead to evil, the evil of sin and an opening to satanic attack.

After two failed attempts, the devil then brought Jesus to the peak of a high mountain and showed him all the beautiful things of the world, the kingdoms and their glory.  He then requested that Jesus should bow to him and he would give him everything. Firstly, we need to realize that the devil wasn’t lying as Adam gave all to him through his sin of high treason in the Garden of Eden (Gen 3), we also need to note that Jesus came to the world to take it back and to win the lost souls in the kingdom back to God. So we can see that the first temptation was based on basic need, the second was religious and the third is based on destiny or our purpose. What many call their reason for living. Jesus came to reconcile the world to God and the devil felt he could use his mission against him.

The devil requested that Jesus should bow to him and he would give him all the glory of the world, the kingdom and the people. What does it mean to bow, to bow means to lower his standard, to reduce his demands of righteousness and holiness, to serve the devil and to worship him, little wonder Jesus answered saying get behind me Satan, calling him by his name, Jesus disgusted by the offer said we must not worship and serve anyone but God. From Jesus’ response, we see that to bow and worship the devil for earthly gain, to lower our standard for the world’s glory is to serve and worship Satan, what a matter. Many today take this for granted, in politics, business, sports, music, education, carrier, ministry or even for marriage, many saints bow and worship the devil, they say if you can’t beat them, you join them. By implication what they are saying is, we are worshipping and serving the devil. They are going against the first commandment written in their heart, they are rejecting the caution of other Holy Spirit to gain the world, that is the way of Esau.

This is the condition of many saints, including preachers, many wanting to attain the peak of the high mountain in their chosen career and ministry, many wanting to retain their position on the high mountain of  the pride of life have bowed, they have lowered the standard of the gospel to gain the world. They have left sanctification and holiness without which no man can see the Lord, they overemphasized grace to the point of preaching worldly living. There is no fear of God anymore. Today we celebrate rich politicians, drug pushers and yahoo boys because they sponsor our television ministry. Some even go out to get unclean spirits to enable them prophesy and speak so called mysteries all in a bid to have a large auditorium. This is a call to repentance, that wrath of God is coming, don’t be deceived, Jesus recovered all on the cross, the riches Adam lost Jesus gained in a righteous way( Mat 28.18, Col 2.15), whatever the devil is dangling before you and demanding your worship is but a lie. Chris is our victory, amen.
