Today’s Reading: Phil 4.5-7

5  Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

6  Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Words of the Ministry

Today we come to the conclusion of our week’s theme, Journeying with Jesus. I like to comment on another component to actualizing our yearly goal which is prayer. Prayer is an important element in all we aspire to do and infact it is meant to be a major part of all other steps we mentioned. In this study, prayer is coming last for the purposes of emphasis and the organization of the lessons. As we have learnt from the first part of our study, we are to avoid the mistakes of the past, this is done by introspection and prayer, then we learnt of the danger of presumption, that again can only be avoided if we pray to know God’s will. In counting the cost, we would be paying the price which includes prayers. To properly lose extra weight we must do it prayerfully as we learnt some are inherent in our personality.  To forget the former things and accusations we must do it prayerfully and so is acquired knowledge, for it to be embedded in us, it must be done in prayers. We can therefore see that prayer is the most recurring decimal on this journey to our yearly goals.

The most common verse on prayer in my estimation is 1Thessalonians 5.17 and it reads pray without ceasing, prayer is not just a choice but a command. A life requirement for all saints. It is the only thing the bible said we should do without ceasing. The bible in the gospel said, God’s house would be called the house of prayer Mathew 21.13, and you are God’s house, the reality of the temple 1 Cor 3.16 therefore until our nickname is called the man or woman of prayer, we haven’t fulfilled this passage as the house of prayers. In Acts 6.4, it is recorded  that the apostles gave themselves to prayer and the ministry of the world, Little wonder they turned the world upside down. Prayer is therefore meant to be like breathing, we may have such secluded time of prayer with the Lord but beyond that, we must cultivate the habit of praying without ceasing even in our heart while we engage in other physical activities as the bible says God hears our thought and can do beyond even the desires in our thought (Eph 3.20). From todays reading we see that we must do all things in prayers, may the Lord grant us light.
