Words of the Ministry:
Today I would proceed by looking at the prayer of Jabez and like I did say at the introduction of this lesson, I would be drawing certain lessons and similarities that we can apply to the New Testament saints. Yesterday, we saw some qualities in the life of Jabez, we saw how his sorrowful experience pushed him to God in prayers, we did mention that he overcame the temptation of passing blames and comparing himself with others. As we look at 1 Chro 4.10 we see the first line “And Jabez called on the God of Israel”, this quickly brings to mind the Lords prayer. The Man Jabez called not just on God as his personal God but the God of the kingdom of Israel, although his revelation was limited to God as the God of Israel unlike the new covenant that makes God not just our God but our father. So we see Jabez praying the Old testament version of the Lord prayer saying O God of Israel just like we were taught to say our father, God being the father of the Saints or the Church.
We can see how Jabez personalized his prayer not just for himself but for Israel, so again we see a man with a large heart, its like saying our father, the father of the saints. A heart that prays like this must be a heart that loves the brethren and the following prayer can’t be self-serving. Jabez praying to the God of Israel meant he was praying to the God that his fathers knew, the God whose testimony abounds and remain, a God that has always been there for Israel in times of need. From this prayer we again see a, man that knew his God just like our second reading suggest, those that know their God shall be strong and do exploit. Many saints today know that they have the God of all possibilities but they don’t know him, by knowing him, I mean an intimate relationship with God. We would notice the verse didn’t say those that have God but those that know him would do exploits.
Dear saints, we must learn from Jabez, he prayed a kingdom based prayer as he sought God as the God of the kingdom of Israel because his needs were kingdom driven as we would be seeing. Jesus teaching us to pray also said pray our father, our prayer should be focused on the kingdom, although the Lord’s prayer said God is in heaven but we know he is also in us. To have a life changing answer, we must know God as our God and we must pray a kingdom prayer like Jabez. May the Lord grant us light. Shalom, please keep in mind our Peniel Encounter coming up this Sunday the 25th of August by 4pm, come with family and friends.
