3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. KJV
Words of the Ministry:
This week’s life capsule is on a common yet very important theme, overcoming temptation, we would be looking at temptation, how it comes, the way of victory and the benefits we get from it, we would be seeing why God allows the tempter and what God expects from us as we grow in life and what our responses should be. For the purposes of this lesson, we will define temptation as anything that influences you to disobey God. It is a situation in which one experiences a challenge to choose between fidelity and infidelity to one’s obligations towards God.
The bible is full of countless stories of temptation starting from our fore father Adam and his wife Eve, even unto Jesus Christ, the Church and individual Christians, temptation is a major factor that has shaped the history of man’s walk with God, the choices we make as an individual, family or church goes a long way to show our level of commitment, obedience and sacrificial living towards God. Covenants have been made and broken between Man and God over the attitude of man towards temptation. The tempter that started out as a serpent in the book of Genesis has grown to become a dragon in the book of Revelation (Gen 3.1, Rev 20.2).
The devil also called Satan is the source of all temptation, he does that using several mediums as we would be considering within the week. God has given us the enabling power to overcome temptation and we also have a free will to choose what pleases God or what the devil suggests. Our walk and growth in the Lord is measured by our attitude towards temptation, temptation is a crucial part of our Christian journey as it is a lifelong experience till the Lord returns. We must be open to the Lord and choose his path to live a life that pleases him. Join us this week as we look into the matter of overcoming temptation.
