Today’s Reading: 2Ti 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday, we saw that training is not just instructing but living the life as an example. We did see that what God expects from every parent is that they be what they teach. We saw that with consistency and deliberate efforts, even our spouses can be influenced positively. Today, I like to comment on the urgency of such training. We are expected to battle for the soul of our children as soon as they are born. We must ensure we catch them early in order to win the battle against our homes.
Many families wait until it’s too late before they begin to imbibe the culture of the kingdom in their homes. While they still believe that the children are still too young, the devil is already teaching them his ways through music, images and video. While we think a child is too young to start reciting the lord’s prayer or some short memory verses, we notice that if the parents are not careful, they are already singing circular songs and dancing to them. The cartoons they watch is already introducing images of rebellion, wickedness, violence and nudity. It is very common to hear terms like warlock, wizard, witch etc in some children cartoon thereby painting a picture that being a witch isn’t really bad.
The parents need to wake up to their responsibilities. We need to start thinking outside the box to catch our children young. We may need to make some memory verses as songs, puzzles and coloring materials. We may need to make little interactive videos to teach kindness, love, patience, and obedience, we should readily make refences to bible characters like David, Samson, Moses, Paul and Timothy when similar situation warranting faith in God occurs in our home so as to draw their minds towards such bible lessons.
Parents and guardians too should be careful not to be found doing the exact opposite of what they are trying to teach as we have learnt that our children learn more from what we do than we tell them to do. We saw from our today’s reading how the grandmother and the mother of Timothy labored on him from Childhood to ensure he became a proper young man. We can also see from our second reading that both small and great would appear before the throne of grace. We must therefore take the matter of our home seriously.
