Words of the Ministry
Yesterday we saw how a generation despite being Children of the covenant lost their covenant promise due to a negative confession. Today I like us to consider an example of a woman who during the earthly walk of Jesus was not captured in the covenant. The account we read in our today’s reading is about a Canaanite woman who through her persistent positive confession partook of the Children’s bread. The woman by her unwavering faith expressed through her words got her daughter healed.
The account of the woman is similar to the experiences of many. Most times when we have a word of assurance from the word of God or a desire, we approach the lord in prayers but soon we get discouraged by those ahead of us, for instance in the case of the woman, the disciples who should have encouraged her by joining her in prayer by pleading with the master to have mercy on her were the exact persons that kept discouraging her. The even advised the Lord Jesus to send her away.
The account said the Lord Jesus ignored her crying and weeping and that is a type of a delay to an answered prayer but that didn’t discourage her, in fact it increased her intensity as the account said she approached the Lord and worshipped him. The Lord said she wasn’t qualified for the bread but she leaned on his compassion to get the crumbs. By implication, the Lord said you are not a Jews hence not qualified by birth to receive the covenant miracle but the woman said I may not be qualified under the covenant but am qualified on the ground of your mercy and grace. Eventually the Lord answered her request and she got her daughter healed.
Saints, the above is a word of encouragement, if the Lord could do it for a woman outside the covenant how much more his own children, The fact that the unsaved have their request met should further strengthen your faith and not discourage you. From the account of the woman, we have seen that at times the devil could bring discouragement that leads to negative confession even through our religious leaders and mentors. The waiting time of God could also lead to negative confession at times if we are not sensitive. To birth our miracles, we may need persistence and long sufferings. Regardless of what happens, we must hold firm to our confession as the Lord always comes through.
