Topic: Benefits of the secret place
Text: Ps 91:1
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. KJV
Words of the Ministry:
Amen, we have spent some time looking into the theme, dwelling in the secret place. We learnt from our general text that God has a secret place and only a few dwell there. We did also say that those that dwell there would abide under the shadow of the almighty. We looked at the several secret places God had in the old testament. We saw examples of men that dwelt in the secret place in the old testament. We also considered Jesus our perfect example of a man that knew the secret place and dwelt there. Yesterday we discussed how to dwell in the secret place. Today we intend to look at the benefits of dwelling in the secret place, the result of being under the shadow of the almighty.
- Joy: Ps 16.11, when we dwell in the secret place we live in Joy, this is noticeable even from salvation, when a sinner gives his/her life to Christ, the first thing noticed is overflowing joy from within. Not necessarily because of a certain happening around them, it’s just a flow from the inner man.
- Protection: Psalm 91.1, Another outstanding benefit of being in the secret place is divine protection. The bible teaches the name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous runs into it and is saved. When we dwell in God we enjoy divine protection as the bible teaches we are his temple and whatever harms the temple, God would destroy.
- Peace: Exo 33.14, The passage highlights the account of Moses, he did not only get protection from God but peace all round. When we dwell in the secret place we overcome certain fears from the world. We live a life of peace.
- Divine Guidance: Psalm 73:23-24, another outstanding benefit of the secret place is divine guidance, that is the work of the Holy Spirit, as we dwell in him, we avoid a lot of mistakes that we would have naturally made, it affects all sphere of life and choices. As we involve him in all our decisions, we have no regret in our choices.
- Transformation: 2 Cor 3.18, as we spend time with the Lord, gaze on him in word study, prayers and fellowship. Our being would continually be transformed; we move from one level of glory to another until we ultimately reflect God. We being in his likeness in glory Rom 8.28-30
For want of time and space I would have mentioned other benefits like, longevity as we saw in Adam, healthy living as we saw in Moses, divine provision as the Isrealites and Disciples enjoyed, Spiritual empowerment like the Apostles, dominion over nature like Joshua, Elijah and Jesus enjoyed etc. In the shadow of the almighty is fullness of Joy.
