Memory Verse for the week<\/strong>: Mat 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today\u2019s Reading<\/strong>: Rom 13.1-5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1<\/strong>  Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2  Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3  For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4  For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute<\/em> wrath upon him that doeth evil. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5  Wherefore ye<\/em> must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Words of the Ministry<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today I like to answer one of the two questions that arose from yesterday\u2019s sharing concerning how we should allow God avenge us as the bible teaches vengeance belongs to God. The question was, should someone offend you and you have reasons to involve the law enforcement, does that mean you have taken vengeance for yourself, in other word in living peaceably with our neighbors and not paying evil for evil, should we ever involve the law enforcement agencies to settle a dispute? In answering this question, I like to point at two silent operators when it comes to peacemaking which is the matter of unforgiveness and vengeance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bible severally taught about the dangers of unforgiveness so much that it says God would not forgive the unforgiving (Mar 11.26).  Having said that I also like to say demanding our right when hurt is not necessarily unforgiveness as it within the laws of the land but in doing so it must not be propelled by a heart for vengeance to hurt the offending party rather for peace. Lets take for example, a man tries to take possession of your land,  a business partner denies you your money, a man abuses your wife etc, after trying to settle the difference and you both can\u2019t agree, you can involve the law enforcement to look into in to ensure you get what is duly yours, the other options to this would have been to fight each other dirty and have bitter grudges against the other party. But by involving the law enforcement, we must ensure it\u2019s not born out of vengeance or unforgiveness but to ensure peace reigns and justice is given to the deserving party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From today\u2019s reading, the bible encourages us to be subject to the law and law enforcement authorities as they are representatives of God. This we must do not only to avoid wrath but for conscience\u2019s sake (vs 5), by implication it suggests that because we have a living conscience, we must obey the authorities and don\u2019t take laws into our hands. I like to then conclude by saying, being a peacemaker doesn\u2019t mean you don\u2019t demand your rights as at when due, rather you don\u2019t avenge yourself and you ensure you forgive from you heart even when you decide to demand your rights. By demanding your rights, you are allowing God to avenge you if he chooses to use that means and if not, he God could use it to further teach you long suffering, endurance or character, that may also help bring the other party to repentance, may the Lord grant us light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
