This week, I would be considering the theme peacemakers as taught by the bible. The subject of peace may be most discussed goal in the 21st century by nations and individuals. Peace as a subject is the desire of every nation, community, family and society in general. So many measures have been put in place by governments to ensure peaceful co-existence but we have come to discover that the more the effort of the world government, the more the conflicts. Some attribute it to the end time prophecies while other say it is just a natural human instinct to engage in conflict for self-preservation. what we would be looking at this week is God’s provision to make us not just live in peace among ourselves as believers but to be peacemakers affecting our society so much that they would acknowledge that we are indeed children of God as only God could achieve this.
Our todays reading gives us a few hint about peace, it makes us to understand firstly that individuals can be peacemakers, secondly that the world around us know those that are peace makers and thirdly that the world agrees that peace can only come from God and that is why they would call peacemakers children of God. Before I comment on the points mentioned, I like to emphasize that indeed the world observes and reads us as living epistles (2 Cor 3.2-3), we would notice that this class of men were called children of God not because of giving, praying or preaching but because of their peaceful living, they are trouble shooters always choosing the way of peace. You can therefore see that that clamor to be called a child of God or a man of God in your neighborhood may have been hampered not because you have not been preaching well but maybe you are not living the life of Peace.
Jesus is the prince of peace (Isi 9.6) and peaceful living is an outward expression of the fruit of the Holy Spirit within us (Gal 5.22). This further goes to show that our life style goes a long way to prove the genuity of our preaching. A troublesome woman in her neighborhood, always quarrelling with her husband and neighbors may find it very difficult to witness Christ with reasonable conversion rate because of her living. As a way of introduction, I like to say yes peaceful co-existence and living is possible, the world around us knows it when they see a peacemaker and the kind of peacemaking we are to express can only come through the power of the indwelling Spirit. Join us within the week as we explore the theme peacemakers, may the Lord grant us light.
